Vietnam has been in the limelight recently with some good results from some of their shuttlers, and it was these who scooped the titles at the Championships in Hanoi. Nguyen Tien Minh (photo), who stunned Taufik Hidayat earlier this year, kept his trophy in the men’s singles event, beating Nguyen Quang Minh in the final. The two finalists later partnered to get the men’s doubles crown.

His clubmates from the HCM City Badminton Club won in all events except the women’s singles, which went to Nguyen Thi Binh Tho, the defending champion from the Thai Binh Badminton Club, 23-21, 21-8 over her main rival Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung, ranked 102nd in the world and training in Germany at the Saarebrucken training Center.

Vietnam will be hosting the Asian Zone Qualifying stage of the Thomas and Uber Cups next year before the final stage is held in Jakarta in May, 2008.
