There is always a special interest to see a reigning Olympic Champion taking on the current World Champion. This is what the lucky spectators of the Elizabeth Stadium will enjoy on Friday as both Lin Dan and Taufik Hidayat secured their spots in the quarter-finals of the event. And all eyes will be on this specific match, which is a rematch of the controversial quarter-final last year which saw Taufik Hidayat walk off the court after only 4 points because of a close call from a line judge.

This time, Taufik seems ready to play at full speed against the World Champion on Friday. “I’m looking forward to this match even if it will be difficult, as Lin Dan is in top form lately,” said Hidayat. The Indonesian had stunned Lin Dan’s nemesis, Park Sung Hwan of Korea (photo, right), in straight games, 21-12, 21-19. "I didn’t expect Park to play that well in the second game after the easy first one. He played fast and sharp," said Taufik.

ImageLin Dan (photo, up)meanwhile, somehow regretted not being able to play against Park, who beat him last week at home. “I wanted to avenge my loss in Guangzhou last week against Park, but against Taufik, it will be a good match. I am confident as I have beaten him twice this year, but the most important thing is to beat him during the most important competitions,” said Lin.

The two men met each other in Malaysia, then last month in France where they played a very high-level match before Lin Dan outplayed Taufik mostly thanks to his superior stamina.
