The Badminton Korea Association (BKA) revealed today that star shuttler Jun Jae Youn would not be flying to Jakarta with the rest of Korea’s Thomas and Uber Cup teams. Jun sustained an injury to her left knee at Korea’s Spring Team Championships last Thursday. She was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Seoul on the same day that she was forced to cede her match to Samsung’s Seo Yoon Hee and team officials had pointed out at the time that both her Uber Cup and Olympic participation were in doubt.

Today, the BKA announced the list of players who were scheduled to depart Incheon for Jakarta and Jun has been replaced by World Junior Championship runner-up Bae Youn Joo. Bae, who last week led Masan Sungji Girls’ High School (incidentally, also Lee Kyung Won’s alma mater) to a second straight Spring Championship title, is currently ranked 110th in the world.

Bae will join Hwang Hye Youn (WR #32), Lee Yun Hwa(#38), and Jang Soo Young (#54) in a Korean women’s singles lineup that is clearly hurting from the absence of tenth-ranked Jun Jae Youn.
