The will change its current format for the next edition, Paisan Rangsikitpho, BWF Deputy President said in a press conference held in Guangzhou this Saturday.

"The new format will give the chance to all teams to win the trophy, with a group stage first, before a new knock out stage." Seedings will be made on the basis of world rankings before the event and the competition should last the same amount of days. Only the number of sessions might be expanded. This means that the current positions (relegation and promotions) will not affect or have any influence on the next edition. The next host for the Sudirman Cup is yet unknown, but two cities have bid for the hosting, one from Asia and one from Europe. They will have to make a presentation before the council next December before being awarded the event.
