The Badminton World Federation (BWF) will not give any wild card this year for the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen: not to Lin Dan, nor to anyone. According to different sources, a document was sent to BWF Member Associations mentioning the fact that no one would benefit from this extra ticket for the world meet in August in Denmark this year. This could come as a confirmation after the qualifying lists were published by the BWF on April 25th, with no mention whatsoever of a wild card (which had been marked by a “WC” by the names of the beneficiaries in previous list in 2013 when Lin Dan received the wild card).
This will certainly cause regrets to Chinese fans who saw their hero make a great comeback to the international stage lately. This might also be a relief for Lee Chong Wei’s fans who might see there the biggest chance ever for the Malaysian to clinch his first gold medal in the event.
