BWF: Yu Xiaohan under provisional suspension

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) issued a press release today saying that Singapore Open champion Yu Xiaohan has been under Provisional Suspension since September 28th.  The announcement comes a few days after China’s Xinhua New Agency broke the news that Yu Xiaohan had been stripped of Universiade medals for testing positive for furosemide (see related report here).  The BWF press release does not mention the substance involved but says that the case was deemed to be a Doping Rule Violation by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) after a sample taken during the July Universiade in Gwangju revealed an Adverse Analytical Finding.

The BWF makes no mention of Yu’s medals being taken back and the Universiade website still lists Yu Xiaohan as a silver medallist in both the women’s doubles and mixed team events.  The BWF says that Yu will have a hearing in late January with the BWF Doping Hearing Panel and until then, the only sanction is the provisional suspension, which keeps her out of any BWF-sanctioned competition until after the panel has ruled.
