Christopher Flores, a former top player from the Philippines and now coaching in the USA, underwent critical last night to remove a myxoid liposarcoma tumour – a rare of connective tissues. According to his blog, updated by his friend, the surgery was a success.

“Coach Chris is doing okay, and positively responding to the medication after the surgery. We are just waiting for him to be fully awake in the Recovery Room. Additional updates will be provided later,” said the update. Flores was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago and was admitted to the hospital right away.  Shortly after, he launched an appeal to his friends so that he could cover the costs of the operation and the word spread throughout the whole badminton community – top players as well as anonymous all donated for Christopher’s operation.

Within 3 days, more than US$13,000 were raised by his friends and the badminton community.
