The 2015 Star Australian Badminton Open Superseries kicks off tomorrow without the rash of last-minute withdrawals that tend to plague so many high-level badminton tournaments.  Ironically, one of the most notable entries to pull out on the eve of the tournament is in the qualifying rounds, where China’s Wang Xiaoli and Zhao Yunlei (pictured), who have separately dominated women’s doubles for four straight Augusts, opted not to face Oceania Champion and home favourite Gronya Somerville and new partner Setyana Mapasa.

Also absent will be German Open mixed doubles winners Mads Pieler Kolding / Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark and men’s singles world #15 H. S. Prannoy of India.  Both Danes are still entered in level doubles, however, with Mads Conrad Petersen and Christinna Pedersen respectively.

The qualifying rounds begin at 9AM local time Tuesday.  Badzine will be on site all week to bring you live reports, together with live photos from Badmintonphoto.
