Kenneth Jonassen may be out of the national team as a player, yet he gave his club of Greve the winning point in its confrontation against TSS in tonight’s final match of the Danish league. Jonassen, head coach for Denmark for another few weeks before switching to the UK as men’s single’s coach, beat Hans Kristian Vittinghus in straight games 21-13, 21-19 to seal his club Greve’s victory in the grand finale of these championships.

The match had its share of international stars, from Nathan Robertson and Donna Kellogg to the duo of Mateusiak/Kostiuczyk, but at the end of the day, Poland was luckier than England, and Greve Strands took a title that had fallen into the hands of Team Skaelskor Slagelse last year. Back then, and at the same time last year, Peter Gade and his team-mates were celebrating their victory, together with Joachim Persson and others.

Tonight, the recent European champion did his job, beating the very same Joachim Persson, who, in between, had switched clubs to Greve, but it was Persson who was to get on top of the podium – again – with his team-mates, as the doubles were more efficient for Greve. Juhl/Pedersen, but also Mogensen/Paaske who easily beat Robertson/Mangor while Boe and Russkikh couldn’t match the pairing of Mateusiak/Kostiuczyk.

The final score came down to 4-2 for Greve, who could celebrate in style – and in orange for this big night for them.
