Amongst the decisions made at the BWF Annual General Meeting, was that the will host more teams, with 12 teams able to win the title instead of 8 previously.

“It is a strategy to help these nations improve,” said BWF Deputy president, Paisan Rangsikitpho.  “More nations will also have the opportunity to play for the Sudirman Cup title.  The old system only allows eight teams to win the title but the format of a six-division championships remains.  We are optimistic that more than 35 teams will compete in the 2011 event,” added Paisan.
