5-time European Champion Peter Gade today announced that he is offering his 2010 European Champion Gold Medal and other equipment to the “1,000 rackets for Haiti” appeal launched last month by Association and the Monaco-based international initiative Peace and Sport to help Haitian earthquake survivors.

Over the next few days the equipment will be put up for auction on the Internet site eBay.com in 2 lots:
–    The 1st lot is the European Champion Gold Medal
–    The 2nd lot contains the shirt Peter was wearing for his victory and the shuttlecock that scored the winning point.

To make the auction accessible to as many fans as possible, bids will start at 30€ and run for 11 days, from Friday 7 May until Monday 17th May.

gade-medal2Funds raised will be used to buy equipment and send it to Haiti, where Peace and Sport is coordinating the Haitian Olympic Committee’s project to implement sports activities for 8 to 20 year-old Haitian youngsters living in survivor camps, designed to help them overcome their trauma and to resume living together in confidence through the practice of sport.

1,000 rackets for Haiti

The “1,000 rackets for Haiti” appeal collects Badminton equipment from around the world to donate to the Haitian Olympic Committee-Peace and Sport program.

As soon as he heard about “1,000 rackets for Haiti” Peter Gade was keen to get involved with the program, which already has tremendous support from Iranian badminton player Kaveh Mehrabi.

Peter said: “After the terrible disaster that struck Haiti on January 12, I really wanted to do something special for the cause and I am glad to be able to help Kaveh Mehrabi on this project.

That’s why I am offering my European Championship Gold Medal, my shirt and the winning shuttlecock for auction. If this donation can help raise funds to send equipment to young Haitians currently living in tent cities, I will be delighted.”

The successful bidders will receive a personal card from Peter himself along with their prize possessions.
This outstanding gesture of generosity shows the actions of great Champions can really make a difference. The Badminton family has supported this project right from the outset and sets an example for other sports.
