The “Favorit” got beaten. This week-end, in the heat of Zwolle, a city not far from Amsterdam, the German team of BC Bischmisheim Saarbrucken beat the title-holders from Russia, the Favorit Ramenskoe, after a thrilling final.

It went down to the decider of the 6th match to see the Germans finally edge out their opponents of the day, thanks to Marcel Reuter, who won 23-21 in the decider against Vaerly Atraschenkov from Ukraine, nailing the important 4th point in the tie.

Another hero of the day was Olga Konon, long time trainee of the BWF center of Saarbrucken, who was all joy after her final.

I believed we could win  as all my team did.  We have this saying that Bismischeim always win in the end no matter how hard it is but in the end we win so we always kept repeating this sentence and it eventually ended up being true,” said the soft-spoken Belarussian, hinting that both the semi-final and final could have gone the other way.

europe-cup-olgaI don’t know whether the final or semi final was tougher. Both matches were hard.  Yesterday, I guess, was harder because nobody reallly expected a point from our doubles but today was also very hard.  I was so stressed watching last match as men’s singles was very close,” added Konon.

The talented player had brought 2 points for her team, one in the singles against Tatjana Bibk and one in the ladies’ doubles, with Emma Wengberg after the previous evening’s amazing performance when both had beaten the reigning European Champions Sorokina and Vislova to beat Novgorod 4-2.

Final:
BC – Bischmisheim  (ALL) beat Favorit-Romenskoe (RUS): 4-2
