The reigning Olympic Champions and second seeds Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan wasted no time and did a quick finish against their opponents Hu Chung Hsien / Tsai Chia Hsin from Chinese Taipei. The 18-minute match was closed at 21-8, 21-15.

Denmark’s top men’s doubles pair Mathias Boe / Carsten Mogensen (Photo) saw little trouble from their opponents Marcus Ellis / Peter Mills (ENG). They booked their spots for tonight’s match against another English pair Anthony Clark / Nathan Robertson with a 21-12, 21-10 victory.

sin10-lulanMalaysian veteran Wong Choong Hann was ousted from the Singapore circuit by third seed Nguyen Tien Minh, who won in a surprisingly easy 21-5, 21-16.

Lu Lan (pictured) is also still on track to fight for the Singapore Open crown after beating Japan’s Ai Goto 21-16, 21-15.

The last seeded player to advance to the second round this morning was second seed Peter Gade (pictured below) from Denmark.

This is something new for me, having my match delayed to the next morning. This is the first time I experienced this in the years I’m playing the sport. Of course this last-minute change in the schedule affected my performance as I have to set my rhythm to prepare myself to play early in the morning instead. However, I guess I just have to cope with it,” commented Peter about the delayed schedule.

Peter tamed Kurniawan Tedjono from Indonesia in straight games 21-14, 21-7. “It was a pretty challenging match this morning as Kurniawan can be pretty dangerous. That’s why I have to start attacking right from the start. Of course the draft in the court has always been a problem, but when I won the first game, I knew that it would be easier for me to win the second game.

sin10-gadePeter Gade has always gained the warm support from the Singapore crowd and is definitely one of the favourites to win the tournament. “The absence of Chinese players definitely makes the tournament much easier. However, I should always be ready and not take anything for granted because with this 21-point system and the draft playing such a huge part in the matches, anything can happen. I really hope to do much better than last year as I was eliminated in the early round.

Peter is going to take on Carl Baxter from England tonight, and if everything goes according to the script, the crowd can anticipate an exciting quarter-final clash between him and Simon Santoso from Indonesia.
