The All England Champions had the undivided attention of a packed-to-capacity stadium in their battle against the young Chinese pair, against whom they had never before played in their career.

The Chinese number 4 seeds were relentless throughout the first set and led the Danish veterans from start to finish taking the set 21-16. In the second, the Danes found their ‘mojo’ and the match suddenly came alive. The vocal Danish supporters club cheered their every move as both pairs battled point-for-point for supremacy. The Danes achieved set point at 20-19 but were unable to extend the match to a decider as some uncharacteristic net mistakes ultimately cost them the set and the Chinese fell to their knees after securing match point 23-21.
