2010-commonwealth-gamesIn spite of the controversy over the readiness of the XIX in Delhi, the event is going as planned and the draw of the badminton team event was conducted at Raj Nivas, the residence of Mr. Tejendra Khanna, His Excellency the Lt. Governor of Delhi at 11:30 am on September 23rd, 2010.  The draw was approved by the competition referee Mr. Chua Soo Hock and find the  group draw schedule of team in group playoff.

As expected, Malaysia will be the main favourite for the team event and stands as top seed in group A.  Lee Chong Wei and his team-mates will play in round robin matches against Australia, Nigeria, Seychelles and Isle of Man, expecting to top the group to enter the quarter-final stage, to be held on October 7th.

Singapore, India and England are top seeds of their respective groups.  England is yet to depart for Delhi – they were scheduled to leave next Tuesday and will bank on their experienced players Nathan Robertson, Anthony Clark, Elisabeth Cann and Rajiv Ouseph to provide the English with their targeted gold medal.

Scotland and Wales were drawn in the same group, together with India, which has high hopes of clinching gold as well, with one of the strongest all-around teams  they’ve had in the history of this competition, led by Saina Nehwal.

After the round robin matches, the best two teams of each group will move on the the quarter final stage.

Groups :

Group A:  Malaysia, Australia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Isle of Man
Group B:  Singapore, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Northern Ireland
Group C:  England, Canada, Mauritius, Uganda, Falkland Islands
Group D:  India, Scotland, Wales, Barbados, Kenya

The schedule has also been published, with all group matches held from October 3rd to 6th included, and the quarters and semis played on the 7th of October, while the final will be held on the 8th.
