She was sent to the hospital immediately afterward and the latest news is not good. According to the Chinese media, the World Champion has cracked the anterior cruciate ligament of her left thigh, which means she will be out of court for a minimum of 6 months, said the Chinese officials today. She is expected to fly to the USA or Germany for surgery. This also means that Wang Lin will not get to participate at home in the Asian Games, the most important competition apart from the Olympics for the Asian continent. Li Yongbo suggested in Changzhou today that the team will look for a last minute replacement for Wang Lin.

This could be a blessing in disguise for Wang Yihan, who was said not to be part of the team before this event, Li Yongbo having explained last month in Paris that the world number one wasn’t selected.  Wang Lin’s could put her back in the team unless China opts for another of their young jewels to replace Wang Lin.
