Viktor Axelsen from Denmark has clinched his ticket for the quarter-finals of the Yonex in Almere this Thursday, after following up his three-game victory over compatriot and 4th seed Hans Kristian Vittinghus with a win over 14th seed Pablo Abian in straight games. The 16-year-old World Junior Champion will now face Eric Pang of the Netherlands but his road – in case of victory – might then be filled with Indian opponents  – no fewer than 3 Indian players made it to the last eight, amongst which Ajay Jayaram, who stunned top seed Mark Zwiebler. Axelsen is going for his first gold success after his first international title a few days ago.

In the women’s singles, most seeds came through to the quarters, with Olga Konon representing Germany for the first time and making it to the quarter finals already.
