As expected, Canada and the USA took all 5 titles at the Pan Am Championships’ individual events after playing each other in the team final. Canada went home with three titles while the US bagged two.

The major surprise of the day was the defeat of Michelle Li to Cee Ketpura, after the Canadian had defeated her American opponent twice in the team event. This time, however, the US teenager who featured in the recent Youth Olympic Games, took the best out of Li and beat the latter 17-21, 21-17, 21-19.

Stefan Wojcikiewicz, top seed in the men’s singles event, won the only gold for Canada that was not from an all-Canadian final.  He clinched gold with a win over Peru’s Pacheco in the final.

Michelle Li was in for a second disappointment when she and Alex Bruce lost in the women’s doubles final. Grace Gao, on the opposite, enjoyed two gold, in the mixed with Toby Ng and in the women’s doubles with Joycelyn Ko.
