Nikhil Kanetkar, once India’s best shuttler in the men’s single event together with Pullela Gopichand has launched his own Badminton Academy in Pune, India.

It will be based out of the Balewadi Sports Complex.

Kanetkar told a news conference that he always wanted to promote badminton in Pune and Maharashtra. “Badminton has always been my passion. This sport has given me the honour and joy of representing my country at the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. I feel the time has come for me to give back to the sport what I have learnt and got from it. I have had the good fortune and opportunity of playing with some of the world¿s top players and training under the best coaches at different centres. It is this experience that I have gained over years that I want to pass on to the coming generation.”

Kanetkar mentionned that he and his group will also take part in the worldwide Flashmob held on June 5th under the colours of Solibad – Badminton without Borders.
