Malaysia born but French representative Sashina Vignes and Brice Leverdez were two of the heroes of the quarter-final session in Belgium for the Yonex Belgian tournament this week-end. The French – who only had to drive for a few hours to reach the stadium from their homes in Strasbourg and Paris respectively – both managed to beat strong opponents to make it to the semi-finals.

Leverdez beat Chetan Anand in straight games – a first as the Creteil-based shuttler had never even taken a game from the Indian, while Sashina Vignes beat Judith Meulendijks of the Netherlands in three games.

Malaysia’s Tan Chun Seang managed to get through to the same stage after a long run from the qualifying draw.
