Local players had a good tournament in Brno for the 2011 Yonex Czech International. , non seeded but title holder, ended up as a happy finalist after great wins over players like Ville Lang or Brice Leverdez, who had just clinched two tournaments back to back. The tall Czech was beaten by top seed Wacha of Poland in straight games in the final 21-19, 21-16, but can be happy about his level of play.

His compatriot Kristina Gavnholt – formerly known as Ludikova – went one step further by clinching Gold, edging India’s Pantawane 21-10, 21-18.

Poland, Russia take two

Russia and Poland will go back home with two titles each. On top of Wacha’s success in the men’s singles, Cwalina and Logosz made light work of Russia’s Durkin and Nikolaenko, but the latter had already played – and won one final with Nina Vislova. The Blond Russian was the big winner of the as she also scooped the title with her regular partner Valeri Sorokina over Canada’s Charmaine Reid and Nicole Grether.

The duo of Canadians – now able to represent Canada as a pair after Grether was officially given a citizenship – will not see their hopes materialize for the biggest event to come: in spite of their status as the best ranked women’s doubles for Canada – Reid and Grether were not picked in the Canadian Pan Am Games team.
