Donna Kellogg, former British top badminton star, announced to day that she was hoping to raise 5000 £ by climbing the Kilimanjaro, next summer. The English shuttle lost her brother this summer when he died of a heart attack and hopes to raise funds in order to help the cause of youngsters dying of heart failure.

She wrote to some of her friends amongst the badminton community that she was willing to help make a difference for other families: “I am going to trek Kilimanjaro next June with Alison (joe’s fiance) and Carrie (friend) for the Charity Cardiac Risk in the Young and I personally am hoping to raise over £5000.    After the death of my brother Joe this July I know the absolute devastation such a sudden tragic death has on a family and hope to raise money to help prevent other tragedies  At present there is still much research needed in this area as we know that his heart was the cause but we dont know why it happened or how it could have been detected.  A simple ECG/ECHO was not sufficient…..in this case science is just not there.    Joe was a fabulously talented young man, witty, caring and thoughtful, an all around lovely guy and I was so proud to have him as my brother we miss him and think about him so much. words really are just not enough”
