Ratchanok Intanon and Sung Ji Hyun were the first seeds to fall in Macau this Wednesday. The three-time World Junior Champion didn’t survive a tricky first round against a new Chinese player, Han Li, who had shone in her home event last week. The Thai went down 14-21, 17-21. Similar fate for 4th seed Sung Ji Hyun from Korea, who once again will leave a tournament early, one week after bowing to Wang Yihan in the China Open Premier Super Series second round. This time, it was Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin who got the best of the Korean, in straight games as well, 21-11, 21-15.

Hu Yun, 10th seed, also lost to a Chinese youngster, Chen Yuekun.

Sung and Ratchanok and Hu were the only seeds to fall even if others had a tough time going through. Second seeds Ahsan/Septano took three games to get rid of Taiwan’s Liao/Wu.
