Taufik Hidayat, Ahsan-Septano, Polii-Jauhari and Kido-Setiawan were four of the top seeds who failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Kumpoo Macau Gold in a bad day for Indonesia. If Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan were beaten by their compatriots Alvent/Gunawan, all the others fell to lower-ranked players from other nations.

In what used to be a classic some years ago, Korea’s Lee Hyun Il beat the Indonesian wonder 12-21, 21-15, 21-17 to scoop his semi-final ticket.

In the women’s singles, three Chinese players are left with Taipei’s Cheng Shao Chieh for the semi-final stage, while the men’s singles competition will be more open, with Simon Santoso, Lee Hyun Il, Hafiz Hashim and Du Pengyu in the last four.
