Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia sent Korea packing in the quarter-final of the Asia Thomas Cup stage in Macau as Indonesia beat the Koreans 3-2 in the overall tie. Simon Santoso had lost his match against Lee Hyun Il, then Ko and Yoo took the advantage over Ahsan/Septano before Taufik and Kido/Setiawan put Indonesia back in the tie, leaving the remaining point to score to Sugiarto, which he did by beating Hong Ji Hoon in three games.
The Indonesians will meet China in the Thomas Cup semi-final while Japan will face Malaysia, wo trounced India 3-0.
In the Uber Cup, Thailand and China secured the last two remaining semi-final spots after the evening session with clear 3-0 wins over Malaysia and Indonesia respectively.
