According to an article published this morning in Malaysian daily the Star, the Australians have come on strong for their bid to host a Premier event with no less than US$1 million put up as , which almost matches the 2011 Korean event – the most lucrative ever badminton tournament with a total prize purse of US$1.2 million.

We have put in a strong proposal. Australia can showcase the event in a big way as it has the expertise. After the Australian Grand Prix Gold for four years, it is only natural for us to look at a bigger event,” said Ganga Rao, one of Australia’s officials.

Rao had been part of Badminton Association of Malaysia and is actually bidding against his former colleagues as Malaysia and Singapore are the other two countries hoping to get the spot left vacant by Korea in this party of five, while Denmark, England, China and Indonesia are said to be in good position to retain their spots as Superseries Premier hosts.

The candidates will have to wait until the council later this month for a final decision.
