This 2013 presented more heat with more participants, more matches and more surprises. The world’s richest team tournament kicked off on Thursday, and showed surprising pair playing in the court. Singles specialists Bellaetrix Manuputty, Bao ChunLai and Boonsak Ponsana played in doubles.

Defending champions Indonesia didn’t give any chance to Vietnam to even steal a game as the powerhouse won 4-0 against its South East Asia opponent. The first match saw ‘emergency’ pair Ricky Karanda/Bellaetrix Manuputty play Vietnamese pair Duong Bao Dug/Thai Thi Hong. The Indonesians won in two games 21-12, 21-13. Karanda/Manuputty filled Tontowi Ahmad/ Lilyana Natsir’s and Muhammad Rijal/Debby Susanto’s place as the latter two pairs just arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon. Manuputty was supposed to play in women’s singles and Karanda in men’s doubles.
