The two badminton players involved in the Yonex Canada Open violent incident last weekend have already been banned by the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT), before disciplinary proceedings have been completed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), according to a report today in Thai daily The Nation.

Bodin Issara was banned for two years and Maneepong Jongjit for three months.  As the bans are effectively immediately, the big loser will be Jongjit’s partner Nipitphon Puangpuapech, who was to represent Thailand as the #16 seed in his inaugural World Championship appearance early next month.

The Nation article mentions that the BAT had originally planned on a lifetime ban for Issara and 6 months for Jongjit but that they sanctions were eased because of the players’ “expression of regret”.
