Danish men’s doubles pair, Mathias Boe / Carsten Mogensen are ready to heat up this week’s tournament as they are going to back on court on Wednesday. Boe/Mogensen missed many tournaments over the past few months after Carsten underwent emergency brain surgery late this past winter. Carsten had no symptoms until he fainted in a hotel while in Kazan, Russia for the 2016 European Team Championships. After three months struggling to recover, now the world #8 are back to challenge their performance in BCA 2016

“Everything is the same as before.  Of course, I had a bad experience in Russia but everything is fixed now and all the doctors said that I’m normal so that’s very positive,” Mogensen said.

Carsten doesn’t want to be trapped too long in the worst time of  his life. He got a lot of support from his family, from his partner Mathias Boe, and from the Badminton Association of Denmark. Step by step he was able to recover his condition. If it hadn’t been for the support and his strong desire to come back, he wouldn’t have been able to recover as fast as he did.

“My condition is getting better and better. A few months ago it was one of the biggest challenges in my life when we were in Russia. When I came back to Denmark, after that, I didn’t practice but did some fitness training because I really wanted to come back at least at the same level. So I’m fighting about my condition,” said Mogensen during the press conference.

“It’s an amazing recovery that Carsten has done and right now training is normal. We don’t take special care and he is upon on a normal level so nothing special that I would say that if someone came and watch training in the hall, they wouldn’t know about the surgery and would not be able to see that he was sick. It’s amazing how he recovered and he is now ready to play tournaments again. The target is to come back in this tournament. Normally they play on Saturday or Sunday.  This time will be a little test playing in the amazing crowd. So we have to test out everything.  We don’t focus so much on the result and will focus on preparing for the Olympics,” said Lars Uhre , the Danes’ coach.

On Wednesday, Boe/Mogensen will face the Chinese youngsters Li Jinhui / Liu Yuchen who are in their peak performance after winning the silver medal in the Asian Championships in April. Of course, this going to be one of the most awaited matches in the Indonesia Open.
