Reigning All England champion and former World Champion Kamilla Rytter Juhl has just announced big news times two!  The 34-year-old has revealed she is retiring from competitive badminton, as she is pregnant with her first child.

Kamilla Rytter Juhl this year finally won the prestigious All England title with her partner on- and off-court Christinna Pedersen.  It was Rytter Juhl’s 16th straight appearance at the All England.  She retires having won 8 Superseries titles, in addition to 3 equivalent titles from before and after that series existed, starting with the Denmark Open title in 2005.  In 2009, she was the last European player to win a World Championship doubles title, prevailing in mixed with Thomas Laybourn.  Pedersen and Rytter Juhl also reached the World Championship and Olympic women’s doubles finals in consecutive years.

The Danish pair had originally accepted an invitation to the BWF World Championships, as they were ranked #2 in the world at the end of the qualification period, but this is expected to be declined.  Pedersen was one of several players who qualified for the Worlds in two disciplines and is slated to compete in Nanjing with Mathias Christiansen in mixed doubles.

We at Badzine wish Kamilla Rytter Juhl success and happiness for the future.
