3-time men’s doubles champion happily announced today that he would be marrying his fiancée Choi Ah Ram later this spring.

“I have set a date with my fiancée and we plan to get married on May 1st this year,” said Jung in the press conference following his victory in the final today the 2011 Victor Korea Open Premier Super Series.  “We’ve known each other for 10 years and it helps that she is also a badminton player because I have been some tough periods, badminton-wise, with the preparations for the Olympics and the Asian Games so I’m really looking forward to a great wedding day this year.”

Jung and Choi Ah Ram were introduced 10 years ago by a team-mate of Jung’s at the time, who had been Ah Ram’s team-mate in middle and high school.  A Seoul native, Choi also spent the last 10 years as an elite badminton player with various regional pro teams but will not be returning to a team for 2011.

“Our wedding date falls exactly 3,555 days after the day we first met.  It also coincides almost exactly with the start of the Olympic qualifying period.  Still, there should be about 2 or 3 weeks before I have to compete after the wedding so I think that will give me time to get back in to things.

“In any case, although badminton has been my life, this will be my life so I just don’t feel I can put it off any longer.  I think I can manage both.”

All of us at Badzine wish Jung Jae Sung and Choi Ah Ram all the best for their wedding plans.
