Germany’s Max Schwenger (pictured right, with Carla Nelte) has called it quits at age 23, according to a report yesterday from Badzine Germany.  Schwenger was ranked in the world’s top 25 and set to make a bid to represent Germany at the Rio Olympics when he found he needed hip surgery last spring, just as the Olympic qualification period began.  He returned to action at the Dutch Open this past fall but continued problems have convinced him to leave international badminton.

Schwenger was a semi-finalist at the 2010 World Junior Championships and he won team gold and boys’ doubles silver at the European Juniors in 2011.  In 2014, he was already getting primed for the Olympics as he titled in Rio in both men’s and mixed doubles at the inaugural Brazil Grand Prix event.

We at Badzine wish Max all the best with his future endeavours.
