The 2010 Yonex Canadian Open, a brand-new event on badminton’s circuit, is still over a month away, but already, the marquee names have started to pop up on the entrants’ list.  And what better start to registration than with former Olympic and World Champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia!  Organizers will no doubt welcome this early sign, especially as the strenght of the draw for this brand new tournament may be compromised by a concurrent event on the other side of the world, not to mention its position in a giant string of 9 consecutive major tournaments that will force even the most ranking-point-hungry players to be very selective in their competition choices.

So far, the only  other players to signal their intent to play in the former speed-skating oval in Richmond, B.C. are Pavel Florian of the Czech Republic and 2005 champion Hariawan.
