Wong Mew Choo and Mohd Fairuzizuan Tazari / Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif are the only shuttlers from Malaysia left in Chennai for the Yonex-Sunrise India Gold event, whose quarter-finals were played on Friday.  Hafiz Hashim, seeded 2nd had to grant a walkover after being led 21-18, 16-15 by India’s new Jewel RMV Gurusaidutt while Tan’Chun Seang’s good run ended against Chetan Anand, India’s top seed, in three tough games.

All top seeds will be playing in the semi-finals on Saturday but a lot of other favourites were shown the exit in the mixed and doubles events. The suprise of the men’s singles event is the ousting of Arvind Bhat by Indonesia’s Alamsyah Yunus in straight games. Saina Nehwal, on her end, spent the least time on court after a quick 21-4, 21-8 defeat over her team-mate Gokhale.
