The 2010 Yonex Gold has upped its prize money on offer to Super Series level as many of the world’s best badminton players will be competing for a total purse of US$200,000 when the tournament kicks off on August 3rd.

Although Chinese Taipei Badminton Association Chairman Cheng Chun-lang told Taiwan’s Central News Agency that the boost in prize money was intended to attract more top players to the tournament, in one way, it is the home team itself that has accomplished that as their top doubles pairs have gone on a rampage beginning with the two latest Super Series and continuing with the North American Grand Prix tour where, for a second week in a row, Taiwan stands poised to sweep the doubles titles.

China’s absence may have hurt the strength of particularly the women’s singles draw but Indonesia, Thailand, and Korea plan to send their very best and along with Malaysia’s top doubles pairs, led by world #1 Koo/Tan, the stage is set for a top-notch competition in Taipei.
