Andy Wood was named this thursday as Badminton’s GB Head . The 47 year old English man has played a key role in the successes of Simon Archer and Joanne Good and then later of course the Olympic Silver medal and World’s Gold of Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms.  He then gets back to a position – but only more permanent –  he once held in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 before being  named  GB Team Captain of the Beijing Olympics. This announcement comes just in time before the Yonex World Championships held at the end of this month in Paris and few months before the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

I am excited and challenged by this new role which allows me to be fully integrated across our performance group. We have an exciting blend of talented youth and experienced achievers both within the playing squad and the coaching team. With everybody pulling together in an honest, driven, accountable environment then I believe we are very capable of achieving more consistent podium success on the international stage” he said after his nomination was announced today.

Last month, Ian Moss was replaced by Vikki McPherson as Head of GB performance and Kenneth Jonassen took charge of the men’s single squad.
