Since their fantastic success at the Uber Cup and several great outcomes in singles, the Korean ladies were expected to perform as well or even better during the World Championships. However things turned out to be more difficult than expected with an early dismissal from Bae Seung Hee, the Uber Cup final hero, who was again knocked out again by nemesis Cheng Shao Chieh from Taiwan in three tough games.

Hopes then rested on the tall Kim Moon Hi, who was set to play against Indonesia’s Firdasari. The aggressive way of playing from the Indonesian paid off in the first game where she led from head to toe, completely pressuring her opponent. The tall Korean, on her end, perceived her opponent tactics, allowing her to counter-attack afterwards.

When she was leading the game, I talked a lot to myself and decided to slow down the game,” said Kim.  The right tactic enabled her to land on the third round, where a mighty Pi Hongyan, on home soil, will be waiting for her, for their first ever encounter.

As I have never played against her in the past, I will have to study her game well, but I’m already expecting a very tough match.
