While the former English colonies’ representatives are fighting in Delhi, the others have joined Indonesia – Samarinda, to be more precise – for the Gold event held this week. And on day two, already some casualties with a bad day for Indonesia’s women’s singles.

7th seed Maria Kristin was beaten by Singapore’s Chen Jiayuan while her compatriot Fransiska Ratnasari – who is playing on the official results’ website under the new name of Harisaputra – was beaten by Thailand’s new star Intanon in three games. 6th seed Linda Wenifanetri went down as well.

As if it wasn’t bad enough for the locals, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, who had been missing from international competition most of the summer, was also shown the exit, by Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun, the teenaged son of Malaysia’s national team coach Misbun Sidek.

Same fate for Candra Wijaya and Luluk Hadiyanto who were stunned by Malaysia’s third seeds Goh and Teo for an impressive success 21-13, 21-18.

But the local sweetheart is still on course for the title he ‘s expected to win: Taufik Hidayat will play his third round match on Thursday against local Wibowo before a possible clash against China’s Du Pengyu… unless recent YOG gold medallist Pisit Poodchalat beats the Chinese.
