The start of the , for Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen / Christinna Pedersen, was eerily similar to the end of the Malaysia Open but it was not their retirement that stopped their first round match.  Rather a knee injury to Singapore’s Chayut Triyachart was the reason why their match ended almost as soon as it had begun, with the Danes leading 21-9, 11-3.

Fischer Nielsen will thus have a little more rest for his own ailing joints before the Hong Kong Open champions take on 2006 champion Nova Widianto, who is back playing with his former partner Vita Marissa.
