For the next two months, 18 young shuttlers will train under the new national singles of Indonesia, China’s Li Mao, in order to make the final cut. Only 7 men’s singles and 5 ladies’ singles will finally enter the national team after try-outs that ended on Thursday in Jakarta.

After the competition, the shuttlers were to undergo physical examination before a final green light for the 2 months training. If the men’s selection seems to satisfy the Indonesian officials, the female shuttlers are not quite up to their hopes.

“We will need to go down to clubs around the country for additional informal selections,” said head of the national selection committee Djendjen Djaenanasri to the Jakarta Post.

An urgent need for the Indonesian Federation as the best shuttlers from the country are now coming to the end of their career with most having left PBSI and play independently.
