Anthony Clark will not be able to win his 10th successive men’s doubles title,  as he was forced to pull out of the English after being hit in the eye by a shuttle on the eve of the tournament.   Although he was willing to keep playing, he was warned by the doctors that he could be facing permanent damage. The other big news from Manchester is the loss of top seed and title holder Elizabeth Cann to 15-year-old schoolgirl Chloe Birch, after the Jersey shuttler wasted 2 match points.
