Following the withdrawal of Tine Baun from the it has been confirmed that Wang Yihan’s participation is also in serious doubt due to an injury she picked up while playing in her domestic league last week. Wang has been advised to stay out of competitive action for three weeks, according to the Chinese media.

This now means that the NIA in Birmingham will be without the winners from the last three All Englands and the finalists from 2009 and 2010 women’s singles. For Larisa Griga and England’s own Elizabeth Cann, this means they now get promoted to the main draw. In Cann’s case, it will be a race to get fit following her recent illness.
