Spain’s top badminton players crossed the Strait of Gibraltar last week to collect both singles titles at the Morocco International in Marrakech while Germany, led by Birgit Michels, took all three doubles titles.

Badminton Europe Circuit leader Pablo Abian took his third title of the year by beating Denmark’s Joachim Persson in three close games while Spanish youngster Carolina Marin (pictured) pulled off the biggest upset of her career so far when she beat Germany’s Juliane Schenk in two.

Germany took all three titles and one more podium spot in the doubles.  Birgit Michels won both her women’s and mixed doubles finals in straight games but her partner Michael Fuchs was unable to do the same as he and Oliver Roth went down to compatriots Ingo Kindervater & Johannes Schöttler in the men’s final.
