Germany’s Carola Bott was famous long before her first international title.  But this was for her looks, mainly, which provided her with the nickname of the “Anna Kournikova of badminton”. But the cute German proved this weekend in Slovenia that she was not just a pretty face as she is about to break into the top 100 in the world after her success in the Slovenian International.

She beat Finland’s Nanna Vainio in straight games 21-13,  21-10 to taste her first international success. Her best results until then had been together with Karin Schnasse.

The men’s singles title went to Taipei’s Hsu Jen Hao, who beat Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in three games, while the doubles were won by Germany, Croatia and Poland.
