Korea’s National Badminton Team will not be in Lucknow, India next month for the annual Asian Championships.  Head Coach Lee Deuk Choon told Badzine this week that the Foreign Affairs Ministry had advised against sending the juniors to India.

Lee did not identify any particular threat but said that the decision was made by the Ministry in consultation with representatives from the Badminton Korea Association and that one factor was recent experiences of the senior national team in India having very little freedom of movement outside of their hotel and the tournament venue.

Lee said that his juniors would still see overseas action elsewhere this year.  In addition to the World Junior Championships in Taiwan this fall, Korea’s youngsters have the second of two junior events in Indonesia coming up next week as they will participate in the Tangkas Alfamart Junior Challenge in Jakarta from June 27th to July 2nd.
