The 2011 Russia Open has started in Vladivostok – in the far east of Russia with unexpected guests: no fewer than 10 players and pairs from North Korea have made the short trip across the Tumen River mouth to Russia to participate in the event, where the Chinese will be favourites, especially in the women’s singles. Wang Lin has withdrawn from the competition, but Lu Lan and 2009 Asian Junior Champion Chen Xiaojia could be meeting in the final. In the men’s singles, Ville Lang from Finland tops the seeding list.
