Singapore’s Today reported this week on the departure, from the national badminton team, of two shuttlers of international origin.  The first such news  in the run-up to the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, was confirmation of the resignations of Indonesian-born doubles players Hendra Wijaya and Hendri Kurniawan Saputra, both brothers of defending women’s doubles player Shinta Mulia Sari.

A day later came news that 2008 Vietnam Open winner Zhang Beiwen had failed the latest cut for the Singapore National Team, a development that has most likely excluded her from the SEA Games this fall, according to Today‘s source.  The Chinese-born singles specialist has been suspended more than once by the Singapore Badminton Association.
