There will be no top seeds in the semi finals of the Individual tournament of the Asian Badminton Championships in Lucknow, India, after a quarter final stage where the remaining favourites got beaten. China takes the lead in the number of spots for Friday’s semis with 7 players/pairs out of the 20 spots available, including 3 women’s singles. Indonesia comes in next with 4 qualified shuttlers or duo, then Malaysia and Taipei with 3, and Japan with 2.

The men’s singles draw is the more open with 4 countries represented. Malaysia’s Zulkiffli Zulfadli is now the favourite after top seed Gifar from Indonesia was ousted by China’s Liu Kai. The Chinese will take on India’s Verma Sameer while Zulfadli plays Japan’s Kento Momota, who stunned Olympian Huang Yuxiang in the third round.
