There is no Christmas celebration just yet for 10 players and pairs involved in the Yonex-Sunrise Syed Modi Memorial India Open Gold in Lucknow this Saturday as they will be fighting their way to the final. There is a possible late Christmas present for Taufik Hidayat, who remains on course for the title in India, more than a year after his last success in Paris’s Superseries. The Indonesian wonder, who has dropped to the 12th spot in the world ranking list, is to play Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki for a spot in the final. In the other half of the draw, India’s new wonder Sourah Varma takes on Thailand’s Avihingsanon.

Thailand is looking at three possible titles with still Ratchanok Intanon and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk still in the draw in the women’s singles, and the top seeds Prapakamol and Thoungthongkam eager to shine in mixed doubles.
