Lee Chong Wei and the duo of Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang respectively won the men and women’s Player of the Year . They were given the during the presentation of the ongoing Li-Ning BWF Super Series Finals in Liuzhou, China, after the voting had been completed earlier during the BWF council meeting in New Zealand.

For the first time, badminton fans had a say on who should be nominated with 24 hours to vote for their favourite on Facebook and Twitter. If Lee Chong Wei had been slightly ahead of Lin Dan in this fan vote – and confirmed by the world’s governing body’s vote later – it wasn’t the case of Lilyana Natsir, who was clearly ahead in the public’s vote (more than 75 %) but saw China’s Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli take the prestigious award instead. The Chinese won 7 out of the 12 Super Series played in 2011 on top of the Victor Super Series Finals last year.
